Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about BetterIt and our services.
Yes — absolutely.
Everything you share with your chaplain stays completely between the two of you. We never discuss or share your conversations with HR, management, or anyone else in your company.
We do send your organization high-level quarterly reports, but these are broad and fully anonymous — they simply show how the workforce as a whole is engaging with the chaplaincy program. No names. No stories. No personal details of any kind.
The only exception is if we ever learn of a situation where someone is at serious risk of harming themselves or others. In those rare cases, Canadian law requires us to take steps to protect life. Even then, we handle it with the greatest care and respect.
Your privacy and safety matter deeply to us. That’s why this promise of confidentiality is at the heart of everything we do.
Yes — absolutely.
Your chaplain is here for every part of your life. You can talk about anything that matters to you — family, relationships, health, finances, personal goals, faith, or whatever else is on your mind.
In fact, the things happening outside of work are often the most pressing and tend to have the biggest impact on how you feel and perform at work.
That’s exactly why we’re here. Your employer recognizes that your personal life and work life are deeply connected, and they want you to have real, caring support whenever you need it.
Workplace challenges can come up too — difficult relationships, team drama, or frustrations. When they do, your chaplain offers coaching: a way to help you gain fresh perspective and discover your own authentic solutions, instead of telling you what to do.
We believe you are fully capable of facing life’s challenges. We’re here to support and empower you every step of the way — with zero judgment and no stigma.
No — it’s completely free for you.
Your employer fully covers the cost of the chaplaincy program as a way of showing they truly value you and your well-being — both at work and at home.
You’re in complete control. You decide how often you want to meet with your chaplain and what you want to talk about. There’s no pressure and no limits.
If you ever need additional support from community resources, your chaplain will gladly help you explore options and provide several choices. While our chaplaincy service is always free, some external resources may carry their own fees.
Rest assured, we have no financial agreements or referral incentives with any outside organizations. Our only goal is to help you get the support that’s truly right for you.
Yes — absolutely.
Your chaplain is ready to support you whenever you need them — day or night. Your employer has intentionally made this flexible care available so you’re never on your own when life happens.
While most meetings take place during work hours at your workplace, you can also arrange to meet outside the office. Your chaplain is happy to join you at a coffee shop, park, or any other comfortable public space that works for you.
You’re also welcome to call, text, or email your chaplain anytime that’s convenient for you.
To get their contact information, simply ask your chaplain for a business card or check the posted flyers in your workplace.
Yes — absolutely.
Your employer knows you’re more than just an employee — you have a full life outside the workplace, with family members and loved ones who are a big part of your overall well-being.
That’s why the chaplaincy benefit is open to anyone living in your household. They can reach out and receive the same caring, confidential support you get.
Sometimes it makes sense for another member of our chaplaincy team to help — especially with conflict resolution or specific challenges. Our team is made up of a wide network of chaplains, each with different specialties and connections, so we can always match your family with the person who’s the best fit.
We’re here for your whole household — with zero judgment and all the support you need.
No problem at all.
Your chaplain has their own faith, and it’s often different from the faith (or lack of faith) of the people they support. Whether you consider yourself very religious, completely secular, or somewhere in between, it makes absolutely no difference to how your chaplain shows up for you.
The chaplain’s goal is never to convert you or fit you into their own beliefs. Instead, they simply want to walk alongside you on your journey — exactly as you are — and help you achieve BetterIt, whatever that looks like in your life right now.
You’re always in control. You can talk about your spiritual journey and practices if you want to, or you can set that conversation aside until (or if) you choose to bring it up. Every discussion, spiritual or otherwise, is completely invitation-based — you decide.
All our chaplains are professionally certified through our own Canada-specific Workplace Chaplaincy Certification Program.
Chaplaincy is a broad profession, much like medicine, engineering, or management. Different types of chaplains need very different training because they serve in very different environments. A hospital chaplain, a military chaplain, and a workplace chaplain each focus on different needs and use different skills.
Our chaplains are specifically trained as workplace chaplains. Their focus is supporting everyday Canadian workers through the real ups, downs, stresses, and successes of daily life — both at work and at home. They’re equipped to be a consistent, caring, face-to-face presence: celebrating the wins and walking alongside you through the challenges.
As the first workplace chaplaincy program in Canada, we created our own certification because most existing training comes from the United States and doesn’t fully reflect the Canadian context. Our program ensures every chaplain who walks through your door has the right tools, cultural awareness, and practical skills to support you effectively — with zero judgment and genuine care.
You’ll see it clearly every quarter.
As part of the program, we provide you with a detailed quarterly engagement report. It gives you a clear, high-level overview of how your team is engaging with the chaplaincy service — all while protecting the absolute confidentiality of every individual conversation.
The report is designed to be easy to read and includes helpful graphics, key statistics, and meaningful insights such as:
- The most common topics and challenges your people are facing
- Overall team morale and workplace dynamics
- Trends that can help you support your workforce more effectively
This transparency lets you see the real difference the program is making — and gives you the confidence to keep this valuable support available to your team for the long term.
